Santa Barbara July 4, 2009 spiritof76sb.org
After an extensive four-month survey and
questionnaire of volunteers, supporters,
friends, and past participants, Spirit
of `76 decided that the theme for the
47th Annual 4th of July Parade will
be...
America: Land of Promise
“We have a number of exciting community
projects in the works for this year, but
the parade always tops the list for
enthusiasm from the community,” says
Paul Lamberton, president of Spirit of
`76. “We were happy to see so many
people get involved in helping us decide
on this year’s theme.”
The announcement of the theme gives
participants in the parade some
structure to help them prepare their
presentation. “America was built on
promises of freedom, dignity, and equal
protection under the law,” Lamberton
continues. “Those promises are as
relevant today as they were when they
were first articulated two hundred and
thirty-three years ago.”
The parade will take place on Saturday
July 4, 2009.
The grand march begins at 1:00 p.m. at
Micheltorena Street and proceeds down
State Street to Old Town Santa Barbara,
concluding at Cota Street.

This Fourth of July you can attend many
fireworks shows around your neighborhood
for little cost. If you live in Orange
County California, there'll be plenty of
fireworks along the beach and local
parks and High School. There'll also be
signs on the street as to where the
fireworks are displayed. Fourth of July
fireworks are everywhere and you should
enjoy it with family and friends.
If you live in Westminster, fireworks
show is free at the local Park and High
School like Westminster High School. You
can get there early for good seats and
parking. The parking lot will be crowded
so you should car pool or walk there if
possible. You can also bring water and
warm clothing if it's in the night time.
It can get cold. If you live in
Huntington Beach, you can catch the
fireworks at the beach. You should walk
there or carpool. There will be little
parking left so you might not be able to
park near. You can get your car towed
away if you park in the wrong spot.
Every year, they towed away many cars
because people think that they won't get
towed. It can be weary to come back and
have your car towed away. It's costly
too. Fireworks are displayed at the
Huntington Beach pier. You can catch the
fireworks from the pier or on the beach.
If you drive along the PCH, you can also
see fireworks show at the other beach
too. Fireworks can be seen even when
you're looking out your window if you
live near one of the zone that have the
show.
If you live in Anaheim then you can
catch great fireworks at Disneyland or
downtown Disney. Disneyland is a famous
location where people celebrate Fourth
of July. When you're driving down the
road in your neighborhood you'll also
see signs of where fireworks are
displayed in your neighborhood. If you
live along the coast or if you enjoy the
beach then you can head down to the
beach and you'll be able to catch a
great show there during the night time.
Another fireworks show is held at
Peralta Park. It's an annual event with
concert, breakfast, food and games, live
entertainment and ends with fireworks.
It's located at Peralta Park and Canyon
High School. The address is 115 n.
Pinney, Anaheim, CA 92807.
The Huntington Beach, California Fourth
of July Parade
An Annual Southern California Tradition
City of Huntington Beach, California
Fourth of July parade. The parade is
part of the Huntington Beach Fourth of
July Festival which is the largest
Independence Day celebration in The
Huntington Beach, California Fourth of
July Parade
Southern California. In 2008, in
addition to the parade, the three day
festival includes: an old fashioned
pancake breakfast at Lake Park, the Surf
City 5K run and Fitness Expo, a three
day Pier Festival, and the Fireworks
Show later in the evening. Many family
activities and plenty of entertainment
are available on Main St. and
surrounding areas during the event.
For some local residents and out-of-town
vacationers, the festivities begin with
the early morning Kiwanis Club pancake
breakfast at the park followed at 10 AM
by the parade. This year marks the 104th
anniversary of the largest Fourth of
July parade west of the Mississippi.
Each year the parade features a
celebrity Grand Marshal however, this
year there will not be a Grand Marshal.
Instead, Community Grand Marshal Noble
Waite, the city's oldest residing former
City Council member, will preside over
the parade. In past years, Grand
Marshal's have included: Jayne
Mansfield, Natalie Wood, Buzz Aldrin,
Johnny Grant, and Lou Rawls.
Early on the morning of July Fourth, the
night's quiet is awakened by the roar of
bustling men and trucks closing off the
downtown streets. Pacific Coast Highway,
the main highway along the beach, is
closed to automobile traffic at 5 AM.
Many smaller neighborhood streets in
downtown are also closed. An early
morning stroll along Walnut St., towards
Main St., reveals a colorful assortment
of parade participants preparing
themselves and their animals or machines
for the upcoming march. The early
morning, usually gloomy from a cloudy
overcast, provides a kaleidoscope of
subtle colors, exotic sounds, and
dedicated people; the essence of the
parade. A few hours later, under the
bright light of the late morning sun,
all the subtleties of the early morning
spring to life on the asphalt stage.

Eureka just won't give up on
Independence Day fireworks.
Local businesses have come forward to
support what officials say will be
perhaps the best fireworks display in
years -- and a pick-me-up during
otherwise difficult times.
”If there was ever a time when we needed
something positive and celebratory, this
is it,” said Eureka Chamber of Commerce
President J Warren Hockaday at a news
conference at the foot of F Street
Friday.
The Best Western Bayshore Inn is
underwriting much of the cost of the
fireworks display, which in all will
cost about $30,000. About $18,000 has
been raised in total.
Eureka City Councilman Mike Jones
thanked the businesses that have stepped
up to make the show possible.
”We still have a lot of work to do,
though,” Jones said.
The shortfall may have to be made up by
other donors and by collecting a little
here and a little there from area
residents. Local businesses will have
collection containers on hand asking for
“$1 or two” from firework enthusiasts.
The fireworks display will be put on by
Rialto-based Pyro Spectaculars. It will
include giant 8-inch aerial shells, sure
to put on a serious show.
It's all scheduled to start just after
sunset on July 4.
