Beach Summer Concerts
Seal Beach Summer Concerts Series Sponsored by
Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce
Seal Beach, Calif.-- Throughout the years, Seal Beach has operated
as a city but for visitors, it is clear to see the look, feel and strength of a
community. The Seal Beach Summer Concerts Series is one of the best examples.
Each summer free concerts held on the grass lawns of Eisenhower Park overlooking
Seal Beach Pier draw neighbors and friends for entertainment and fun. Many pull
their children in shiny, red wagons from their nearby houses to the park, some
walk their dogs, some stroll hand in hand toting picnic baskets and blankets,
and others come by car and park to enjoy this tradition.
According Erik Dryer-Goldman
(askerik.com) one of the event planners who puts the concerts together, the
concert series continues to grow in popularity and community interest is so
strong that people actually begin putting their chairs out on the lawn eight
hours before the concert begins! He is but one of countless volunteers who enjoy
their community and work through the chamber of commerce and city to provide
additional activities and events for citizens and visitors to the northernmost
coastal Orange County city bordering Long Beach in Los Angeles County and
Surfside in Orange County.
Ocean Boulevard has become
more of a highway than a sleepy street fronting the beach since "staycationing"
became part of the travel vernacular, but on Wednesday evenings before the
concert, traffic backs up as people seek parking spots close to the Seal Beach
Pier and park where the concert by the sea is hosted.
In the past several years the
concert has included the likes of famed musician and local Seal Beach Music shop
owner Eddie Montana who offered a rendition of
Orange Blossom Special. Montana, formerly of Montana and Lace, a
manufacturer of fine fiddles, banjos and string musical instruments, is known
not only for his numerous CD's that you can purchase at his shop on Main Street,
but for his expertise as a master of these stringed instruments. He teaches
lessons as well as sell music products at his store.
While Montana hasn't appeared
at the concert series for several years, there is a solid mix of pop, rock, jazz
and country, but mostly the 50s-through contemporary tunes reign supreme.
In 2009 the concert series
called "9 in 9" (nine concerts in 2009) offered a great line-up, fine weather,
beautiful scenery and a sense of community. For those visiting or living within
range of Seal Beach beaches, this is free entertainment that can't be beat!
