San Diego County Beaches
Fletcher Cove in Solana Beach
Solana Beach -- Of the less than 2 miles of beachfront in San Diego
County's Solana Beach, Fletcher Cove, or "Pillbox" is the main
beach and park in the City of Solana Beach. Located at 111 S.
Sierra, at the end of Plaza street where Lomas Santa Fe
Boulevard meets the beach, Fletcher Cove is a constant hub of
activity during the day as beach-goers, strollers, surfers and
visitors from around the globe come to see the beauty of this
special place.
With the easiest public access
and public parking at a beach lot at the Cove (there's also free
street parking) Fletcher Cove also close to Solana Beach train
station--only a few hundred yards, in fact! Amtrak and the Coaster
rail line, a local train whose route runs between Oceanside and
downtown San Diego, both stop here.
A downslope paved public
access leads from the parking lot to a beautiful beach flanked by a
cliff with homes and buildings on a hilltop overlooking this cove.
Showers and restrooms, picnic tables and a basketball court located
on top of the bluffs next to the Marine Safety Department
Headquarters, offer recreations opportunities.
Lifeguards are on duty year
round at Fletcher Cove, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. during the
winter months, and from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. during the summer
months.
Getting to Fletcher Cove
simply involves exiting the San Diego Freeway at Lomas Santa Fe
Drive. Follow the signs to the beach and voila, you are there at the
parking lot! Or turn on Coast Highway 101 (Camino del Mar) at West
Plaza Street.
