| Wouldn't it be nice if you could
bypass the middle man and go right to the source of
good foods? In California, you can actually visit
nearly any city and discover that such a concept
exists--at Farmers Markets. Our site lists
at least several hundred of these weekly events.
If you're looking for fresh strawberries, you can go to
Costco and purchase the Mexican-grown berries. Blueberries come
from Peru and all points south, too. So why not buy local?
Go to a farmer's market (certified) in California and get
strawberries grown in Oxnard shown above. Or avocados from
Fallbrook are mighty tasty.
Need apples or almonds? The growers send salespeople and
sometimes they come, themselves, between seasons, and sell you
their farm-fresh California grown products and foods. If you
have a choice to shop local, it usually allows you to buy
things a bit fresher than the items crossing borders.
On a recent press trip, one
publisher whose focus is the Hollywood scene,
told me she has a routine, visiting the Santa Monica
Farmer's Market near her home each week. She
practically lives off the vegetables and herbs she
purchases at this outdoor market. Riding in a van
with her on a long road trip to Yosemite National
Park, she went on for 20 minutes, talking in fevered
passion about the foods sold there. She discussed
her olives, her greens, and so many things. My head
was swimming as she described the foods and virtues
of the products sold at her favorite shopping event
of the week.
