Berkeley is a memorable city in close proximity to Oakland and San Francisco, that feels like its own country. Located in the East Bay San Francisco, attractions and activities cater to the University of Californnia Berkeley audience as well as tourists seeking great music, culturally diverse cuisine, unique art and a creative environment filled with short term and lifetime academicians. Traffic is heavy and parking at premium during the school year especially, making parking sometimes a challenge. For things to do, Berkeley Marina features an amazing 4th of July Fireworks show, plus an annual Kite Festival the last weekend in July. Ongoing at Ashkenaz, the music and dance community center, are a full list of concerts all year long. Ranging from Jazz to World Beach, you'll have opportunity to see many acts that you won't find elsewhere. At Zellerbach Hall on the University campus, the schedule is filled with ballet, modern dance, classical music, pop, and even opera. The Berkeley Play House puts on a fun schedule of musical and stage performances, offering everything from family-friendly shows to adult interest. Berkeley City Club designed by the famous female architect, Julia Morgan, features concerts, lectures and all sorts of entertainment throughout the year. Free summer concerts at the Berkeley BART Plaza in Downtown Berkeley, shopping festivals along Solano Avenue, and other entertainment and fun fills the calendar all year long in Berkeley. If you sleep at night, you are missing out on the city that comes alive after dark. Take a siesta, then go out and explore Berkeley. It makes for a great weekend or two-day getaway.
