La Jolla Beach Vacations in San Diego, California Area
La Jolla is truly one of the finest San Diego destinations for a vacation. It is actually a village unto itself, but remains part of the city of San Diego, much like Hollywood is to L.A. La Jolla is home to many wealthy people, as its hillside settings with ocean views offer some of the most exclusive residential neighborhoods in all of Southern California. With many luxury beach hotels, Torrey Pines public golf course that's a PGA 36-hole course, a Gliderport for launch of hang-gliders, public beaches, surfing beaches, coves and rocky shores, there's lots of outdoor sports and nature to soak up in the sunny, warm destination. But it's only a portion of what La Jolla is about for tourists. In addition to the luxury resorts offering spa treatments of every kind, the downtown shopping area that edges toward the Pacific Ocean just a block or two away, offers diamonds, fine art, designer sunglasses, and boutique clothing. In addition, you'll find all sorts of household gifts, souvenir shops and enough wandering to fill up an afternoon. La Jolla isn't short on restaurants, either. Many outdoor cafes or indoor brew pubs and bistros serve up tasty meals that tourists find surprising good. San Diego offers so much great dining that you have to get used to making tough choices about where to eat.
In addition to dining, shopping and sports, you'll also find the La Jolla play house offers lots of great, live entertainment, and the town hosts many events such as car shows and art shows, usually held outdoors in the wonderful weather. La Jolla's hotels and resorts are situated near the Pacific Ocean, and many are not cheap. Ranging from affordable to expensive, the options don't hinder even budget travelers from booking rooms in this seaside destination. It offers more of a resort look and feel than the beach communities south of La Jolla in places such as Mission Beach, Ocean Beach and Pacific Beach.
Where to stay? There are so many great hotels in La Jolla that it's tough to point to just one and recommend it. We've tried the Lodge at Torrey Pines with its craftsman style decor, and it was very nice. We also stayed in the Hilton on the golf course and it was quite beautiful, though slightly more affordable. Then we'ver tried the Estancia, La Valencia, Hotel Parisi, and the Grand Colonial. Many have gone down in price during the 2009 year, and as such, look to your best buys with Hotel Parisi, The Lodge at Torrey Pines, Valencia and Estancia, for the luxury amenities and mid-range prices. That's generally our price range, though we always aim for hotel deals in the four diamond quality range. Right now you very well may find such offerings, mid-week, especially.
