Redding is north of Sacramento and San Francisco in the Shasta Cascade Wonderland. The Sundial Bridge, an $18 million walk bridge, McConnell Arboretum, Lake Shasta Dam tours, cavern tours, houseboats and Lassen mountains are some attractions in and around Redding.
A vacation to Redding is best spent in the fall or spring for those who wish to avoid cold or heat. The springtime is beautiful. But locals who are accustomed to the dry summers that can hover close to 100 degrees find the weather delightful. They are water-oriented people who enjoy fishing, hiking, boating and the cool mountain escapes of the pristine forests such as Lassen Volcanic national Park or Whiskeytown National Recreation Area.
Redding has always been known as the most popular vacation for houseboating, but lately it's become a residential mecca for those who discover Redding and its incredible charms. But not seeing enough of the Shasta Cascade, the direct flights from LAX to Redding make the trip and easy few hours of travel. Then you rent a car at Redding Airport and you are on your way to an adventure that's great for both outdoorsmen, and couch potatoes.
When you arrive, there are several must-see high points in Redding, the region's major city offering conventions, conferences and entertainment. Among the wow items are the Sundial Bridge, an $18 million walk bridge, McConnell Arboretum and Turtle Bay Aquarium. The entire complex is connected so that you can access three attractions in one stop. The parking is free and the walk is just awesome. There's a nice cafe with indoor/outdoor seating at the Aquarium and the salads and sandwiches are pretty good.
Redding is known for its salmon, and Buz's Seafood Market is the place to get it fresh, affordable, and delicious. The restaurant has been in business for many years and knows how to cook seafood to perfection. The decor is unpretentious, and the food is worth a trip to Redding.
While travelers overlook Redding and Shasta vacations, after having visited, We can only say that you don't know what you're missing. In a few days you can see a huge dam, waterfalls, volcanic mud pots, forests, lakes, rivers, flowers, and drive through some of California's most scenic roads along the National Scenic Byway.
