Laguna Beach. We've seen plenty of gorgeous photos
of the Surf and Sand Hotel in Laguna Beach and heard people talk about
how much they like it, so we wondered how we could miss something so fabulous.
After all, we drive along Pacific Coast Highway often and don't recall seeing
something so spectacular. Well, the answer to our puzzlement came
on a recent quest to find this place. The street entrance to the
hotel is rather ordinary. It is landscaped and pretty enough, but it's
primarily a parking lot full of cars. Therein lies the mystery.
Surf and Sand is built so that just
about everyone gets an ocean view from their room. See
video of beaches outside the hotel. Standing from
the street entrance, there's a nice fountain and a bench where guests can
sit and watch the ocean which sometimes offers a treat such as dolphins
and whales passing by. That's an appropriate sight because Wyland (the
famous artist who paints whales on building murals), has a gallery not
far down the street from the hotel. The Surf and Sand is very
popular and is often booked. Right now, we tried getting in and after trying
4 days in a row, we found a room. You either have to plan ahead to
stay here or be flexible about when you can stay. Either way, the
rooms are very nice, the views are forever blue and Laguna Beach is outside
your door with everything in walking distance. Many great restaurants,
unique shops and funky stuff await your perusal in one of California's
most scenic beach towns.
Renovated
rooms and a luxury spa at the beach make this Laguna Beach property rise
above the crowd in popularity. When the newest, luxury resort opened,
Montage Resort & Spa, you'd think that Surf & Sand may have felt the pinch.
Instead, the popularity of this resort and price points made it stand strong
and grow in its popularity and offerings. As a result, the hotel looks new
on the inside and exudes the feeling of luxury that something with
spectacular views deserves. Weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and
weekend escapes are celebrated here. Also popular at this hotel it the
kids vacation for families to enjoy. The beach is at your beckoning call
outside the door and a swimming pool overlooks the beach. For children, you
can't ask for much more except for some good meals, some sand-in-your-toes
thrills and maybe a trip to Disneyland, Legoland, Van's or Universal
Studios.
Laguna, the

help you get to the summer or winter Sawdust Festival.
