Sonora, a California Gold Country city located in the
Sierra mountain foothills, features a Certified Farmer's
Market, shown in the video. Each week this friendly
gathering of townspeople and visitors rolls out the red
carpet with a hospitable environment that includes live
entertainment. The video features the fiddle music of a
band, The Fiddle Gang.
The mountain
fiddle music is a real tradition to this part of the
country and state of California. From the old mining
camps came songs played on fiddles that comforted and
entertained gold miners. There was not television, no
cell phones, no electricity and not much in the way of
entertainment. Music offered a sweet diversion from the
stress, wear and tear of the of the soul that California
gold seekers felt as they toiled morning till night.
Today in this
California Gold Country, you can enjoy many folksy forms
of entertainment such as a lumberjack jubilee, jumping
from jubilee, and other such community-oriented events
that are held annually. The Sonora Farmer's Market is,
however, a weekly event throughout the summer and into
the fall, that offers food, crafts, and usually a band.
One thing that
caught our eye at this event was quite unique--free
hugs!
